2.What data are collected by onGen?
With the collection, processing and use of personal data I aim to provide a user-friendly, efficient, appropriate and safe on-line search in genealogical sources. In general, you can use (i.e. view) parts of my offered services without communicating any personal data to me. When you decide to search the database or if you request copies of genealogical documents and therefore register, you have to provide me with your data. These are your address and contact data and possibly your bank account and further information as far as these are required by onGen. These data are called inventory data. Wherever possible I let you decide freely whether or not you want to communicate your data to me. Moreover, with the registration you select a user name (at present your valid email address). Several functions on the onGen website require the input of your password for identification. For proper calculation of your onGen account I need information about your successful transactions. Additionally, when you use the onGen website, your computer automatically conveys information such as IP address, browser type, and access times at onGen. I also store most of this information in an anonymous form. This helps me to better understand the navigation behavior of my users. Furthermore this helps me implementing my TUC, with the prevention of fraudulent behavior, and sometimes this information becomes necessary as legal evidence.
3.What are Cookies?
On different pages onGen uses so-called cookies. Their purpose is to make my services more user-friendly, more effective, and safer. Cookies are small information units, which are stored on your computer and read by your browser. Most of the cookies used by me are so-called `session cookies`. They are deleted from your hard disk automatically after the end of your onGen session. Other cookies remain on your computer so onGen recognizes your computer when you login the next time. onGen uses cookies to speed up navigation between onGen pages, to adapt them to your needs and interests, and to avoid abuse of the onGen website. Thus, for example, through the use of cookies you need to enter your password less frequently while navigating onGen pages, and on your visit you can be addressed personally. Cookies help onGen to customize the website. In addition I use cookies in order to measure the number of page hits and displays of advertising banners as well as in general navigation. The use of cookies also serves for greater security of the onGen website. You can adjust your browser in such a way that you will be asked before accepting cookies or to reject them at all. However, I point out to you that, with the refusal of function-oriented cookies, you can use onGen only under restricted conditions. Certain functions are available only if your browser accepts the use of function-oriented cookies.
